The programme will include community singing, the production of a one-act play, musical items, and dancing.

Hockey Player Injured. —A painful scalp wound was sustained by John McKinnon, aged 20 years, when he was taking part in a senior hockey match at Steele Park on Saturday afternoon. McKinnon, who was playing in goal for Old Boys’ Colts against Ivaipaki, ■came out of his goal to clear the ball, and ran into the stick of an opposing player. A long-cut was inflicted, necessitating medical attention.

An Anniversary. —-To-day *is the, 25tlV, anniversary of the linking of Wellington and Auckland hy railway. The last rail was laic} on August.' 3, 1908, near the Manganul-o-le-ao/v}a-duct, about half-way between YV'eUingtbn and Auckland, and ‘ the first train to pass over the fine was a special which loft Wellington on August 7. Hamilton Fires, —The Hamilton Fire Brigade received two calls during the week-end. There was very little damage in either case. A wooden cottage, owned and occupied by Mrs V. L. Quinn, in Rijaklwl Street, was noticed alight shortly before eight o’clock on Saturday night. The outbreak was suppressed before much damage wag done. The dwelling was insured for £2OO. An outbreak in a small shop owned by Mrs D. Bain, of London Street, Hamilton, about midday yesterday, brought the brigade out, but the first aid fire-fighting apparatus was all that was required to quell the lire..

Community Singing. Community •singing and all the good cheer attendant upon it will take placo to-morrow at the Theatre Royal. This week tho

“ sing ” will he in the 'hands of the Waikato Entertainers’ Club, which is providing the leaders, “ gagsters,” and instrumentalists. The programme selected contains the most popular songs, and a record attendance should result. Tho “ sing ” will be broadcast by Station }ZII, Hamilton, and though these weekly relays are bringing entertainment to thousands of listeners it is to be regretted that little practical appreciation is being shown hy the listeners. As there is a Government charge each week the broadcasts will have 'to be discontinued if this service falls lo he at least selfsupporting.

Stock In Borough-—A plea of pot guilty to a charge of driving cattle along Queep’s Avenue, which is not a route, was made by Geoff Ghitty ip the Hamilton Magistrate's Court this morning. Defendant explained that he took the only direct route out of Frankton in order to avoid a wide detour. A line of 10s with oosts 10s was imposed.
