GOING TO RENO. MARRIED A YEAR. The marital troubles of Mr Elliott Roosevelt, son of President Roosevelt, are ending in the divorce court. He proposes to take up residence in Reno, Nevada, to enable his wife to obtain a divorce on the ground of incompatibility. His mother, who flew from Washington to Los Angeles for a talk with her son, briefly confirmed the news as she left again for the White House.
The couple, both of whom are In the early twenties, have been separated for a year. They were married in January last year, and their son William was born in November. It Is said that an agreement has been reached regarding the custody of the baby. Young Roosevelt has been living In California since he obtained work as manager of an air line. His wife did not go west with him and is living with her parents near Philadelphia.
“ Not a Suocess.”
Neither she nor her father, Mr William Donner, the millionaire retired steel manufacturer, would make a statement on the proposed divorce. Friends, however, said they were not surprised at the news, for, they state, it has been apparent for some months that the marriage, such a great social event at the time it took place, had not proved a success. When the couple oame to live tn New York young Mr Roosevelt took up advertising, but relinquished the work fvvhen ills father became President on the theory that his job was
incompatible with the Influenltal position held by his father. Mr Roosevelt said he was determined to make his way unaided by Influence, and that Is why he went west. Under Nevada law a divorce suit can be brought by either party provided one has established the necessary term of resfdence.
