RIOCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

SOME INTERESTING WORK.

CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Conditions were mild for training work at Riocarton to-day. The outside of the course proper provided good galloping ground, though it was slow after rain earlier in the week- As a result no fast times .were registered; A few horses jumped but this department was disappointing. Elude and Southdown ran half a, mile in 51s.

Acceptable covered six furlongs in 1.20 2-ss.

Martian Chief, who was picked up by Top Rank, did seven furlongs in 1.33 2-ss.

Haere Tonu, just beat Water Polo over half-a-mile in 51 4-ss.

Liege Lord with the .assistance of Meprisant, covered b,alf-a-mile in 525. Nightly and St- Joa'ji ran six furlongs in 1.20, Tea 'Garden doing the distance In 1.19 4-5 and 'Chrysology in 1.19.

Phareha got to the end of half-a-mlle in 52 l-ss.

Cottesmore, Strong Light and Chief Light finished a seven 'furlong effort in that order in 1.32 3-5.

Silver Ring covered seven furlongs easily in 1-36 2-5. Cricket Bat and Drum Fire ran six furlongs in 1.19. Bright Red and Fiat Lux were evenly matched over -five furlongs In 1.5 3-5.

Ranelagh and Hurllngham did seven furlongs In 1.345.

Errantry, Sweet Agnes and Pharaoh ran five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Skylass came to the end of'half-a-mile in 54 3 -ss. A ’ Doiran and Charnieuse did seven furlongs in 1.37. Silver Sight and Some Shambles ran six furlongs in 1.21-and Hounslow and Marqulllo covered a similar distance •In 1.22 3-5. Finished on Terms. Polydora and Shatter were sent over seven furlongs in 1.32, being on terms at -the Amish. Double Shot covered five furlongs in 1.6 2-ss, Rational 11. taking 1.8 3-ss. Lady Zephyr ran half a mile in 535, Bright Shade and National doing the same distance in a similar time. Cranford ran seven furlongs alone in 1.32. Ramo was sent over a mile in 1.46 3-5, Solwit assisting him over the last Ave furlongs. Wise Choice and Jaloux did six furlongs together in 1.19 3-5. King Comet gave a brilliant exhibition over four hurdles, with Royal •Limond who also jumped well. Joie de Val started with them but gave an indifferent display. Billy Boy Refuses. Billy Boy, Gay Jim, Thurina and High Pitch went out for a school,once round over the fences on the course proper. Billy Boy refused the first kennels’ double. The others went on over the sod wall, but High Pitch fell at the first fence at the top of the •straight, where Gay Jim pulled up, this being all he was intended to do. Thurina continued alone, Anishing ovet Cutts’. He gave a fine display. A. E. Ellis rode him and will have the mount in the Grand National event.

Billy Boy subsequently jumped the ;kenne\lg’ double, the reverse way, and then the sod wall at the top and came home on the Hat. His exhibition was-’Similar to what he did when he schooled last year. Speakeasy gave a fine display once round over the country on the course proper. Dukla started with him but -refused the first kennel. He got over after several attempts in one of which he lost his rider. Dukla then jumped the sod wall hut ran off at the brush at the top of the straight. Latest Arrivals. « Yesterday's arrivals for work were Prince of Orange, Lucess, Jole de Val, Quebec, Paleta, Kaokaoroa. Except for Joie de Val, who jumped, all did light tasks. Gopey, Callamart, Rasouli, Adventus, Omeo, Henry of Navarre, Normanby, Jen, Cylinder, Epigram, Cyclonic, Baytree, Luna Lux and Playground arrived from the north this morning. HIGH commissioner out. NOT 'GOING TO RICCARTON. Te Rapa stables will not be represented at the Grand Natiohal meeting consequent on the decision to-day not to send High Commissioner south. All other local horses that were nominated, have been withdrawn, but hopes were entertained that High Commissioner would be fit enough to gO.

J. F. Tutchen’s charge is, however, still tender from the injuries he received at the Ellerslie fixture, and his mentor has decided not to send him to Riccarton.
