The County Cricket Competitions were continued during the week with the following results:— Kent v. Surrey. —Kent, first innings 293, second 374 for four wickets (Ashdown 178, Ames 81). Surrey, first, 482 for - eight wickets declared (Squires 107, Barling 131). Surrey won on the first innings. Warwick v. Sussex. —Warwick, first 307 (Kilner 93); second, 152 for three wickets. Sussex, first 457 for nine wickets declared (Cook 143, James Langridge 111). Sussex won on the first innings. Gloucester v. Lancashire.—Gloucester, first 228; second 319 for three wickets (Hammond, in, 126). Lancashire, first, 466 for six wickets declared (Tyldesley 104, Watson 85). Lancashire won on the first innings. Derby v. Middlesex —Derby, first 167 (Sims took eight for 47) ; second, 175 (Hearne took nine for 61). Middlesex, first 252 (Mitchell took 'seven for 86) ; second, 92 for two wickets. Middlesex won by eight wickets. Leicester v. Nottingham. —Leicester, first 176 (A. Staples took four for 41); second, 261 for eight wickets deolared (Armstrong 117). Nottingham first 276; second 155 for five. Nottingham w’on on the first Innings. Hampshire v. Yorkshire.—Hampshire, first 268 (Bowes took five for 74); second, 68 for two wickets. Yorkshire, first 338 (Leyland 133. Boyes took five for 96 and Palmer five for 93). Yorkshire w-on on the first innings.
Somerset v. Essex. —Somerset, first 223 (Fames took 7 for 72) ; second 91 (Fames took six for 26). Essex first, 399 (Pope 86, O’Connor 75). Essex won by an innings and 77 runs. Worcester v. Northampton.—Worcester, first 273 (Walters 108, Matthews took six for 58); second 214 for three wickets declared (Nlch’ol In 157). Northampton, first 308 (Bakewell 70); second, 115 for three wickets Northampton won on the first innings.
HAMMOND’S SEASON’S SCORE. AGGREGATE OF 2000. (Received Aug. 2, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 1. Hammond has reached 2000 runs for the season. JARDINE INJURED. STRUCK ON .THE LEG. (Received Aug. 2, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 1. Jardine, while fielding, was struck below the knee and fell like a log. He was assisted off the ground. A nerve in his leg is affected. He at present is forced to hobble on two sticks.
