VALUES AT FRANKTON.

ADVANCE IN SHEEP PRICES. FIRM TONE OF MARKET. Improved values, as ‘compared with the previous week’s quotations, prevailed at the Frankton stock sale yesterday, prices In a number of instances showing a marked improvement on late Fat sheep were 'penned in average numbers and sold under good demand at values generally in advance of last week’s figures. An increase of about Is 6d was recorded for wethers, while fat ewes were better by about 3s. Other lines also advanced. An average entry of fat cattle was 'offered, and here again values were firmer, ox beef showing an Improvement of about 10s a head, while prime cow beef was also up. There was a small offering of fat pigs and a large yarding of stores, and values ruled firm ait full late rates. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report: At the weekly stock sale in the Frankton yards [here was again a good yarding of fat shee'p, including many pens of prime quality wethers and ewes, for which competition was keen throughout, and the prices 7 for fat . wethers were slightly firmer, while fat ewes showed an increase of 2s 6d to 3s per head. A pen of extra prime heavy ewes sold on account' of Messrs Vickers Bros., Tuhikaramea, bought 23s iOd, and were purchased by .Messrs. Sutton and Sutton. The same buyers bought from Messrs Blackett Bro-s. a pen of fat ewes at 22s 9d. A truck of prime heavy wethers from Mr A. S. Sutherland, of Ngaruawahia, realised from 23s to 2Gs id, and were purchased by Mr W. R. Shattock. Only a'small yarding of fat hoggets came forward, values remaining on a par with last week’s quotations. Cattle: Ox beef was yarded in usual numbers, including many good quality cattle. Quotations remained unchanged. Cow and heifer beef came forward In good numbers, the pens being filled with .first-quality cattle The market showed a firming tendency, while second quality beef also showed an improvement. Pigs: A small yarding of fat pigs met with good competition, there being an advance on last week’s quotations. Loan and Mercantile. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, Hamilton, report on their weekly Frankton stock sale held yesterday:— Sheep.—The entry of fat sheep included more than the average numbers of wethers, a medium supply of fat ewes and a few odd small lots of lambs. The keen competition displayed last week was again in evidence, and prices as a result slightly improved over last week’s abnormal level. We quote:—Best heavy wethers, £1 3s to £1 6s Gd; good quality, 18s Gd to £i is; medium, 15s to 17s Gd; prime heavy ewes, 17s to £1 2s 6d- medium, 13s to 16s; prime heavy hoggets, 18s to £1 3s; good, 15s to 17s Gd; medium, 13s to 15s. Cattle. —A feature of the yarding, which was an average one, was the number of both cow and heifer beef of quality. There was a strong tone in the bidding and right throughout values appreciated to a fraction in advance of those recorded last week. On account of Mr A. McNicol, To Aroha, we sold one particularly line runner to Mrs Crosby for £5 Bs. A truck of prime cows and heifers on account of Mr A. McNicol made from £4 Us to £5 2s Gd; a truck of prime but small Polled Angus fat heifers on account of Mr 11. 11. Clark, made from £3 5s to £3 IGs. There was very little alteration in the store cattle section where cull cows changed hands freely at late quotations. We quote: Prime runners up to £5 8s; good, £1 15s to_ £2 15s ; prlmo heavy bullocks, £5 15s to fib 15s' good quality, £5 5s to £5 12s Gd; medium, £4 12s Gd to £5 ss; prime cow and heifer beef, £4 12s Gd to to ss: good quality, £3 15s to £4 10s; medium, £3 2s Gd to £3 12s Gd; lighter £2 Os to £2 15s; forward, ti iSs to £2 2s Gd; stores, £1 4s to £1 14s- on account Mr T. M. Hall we sold to Messrs Crosby Bros., and Mr E D. Tutchen two heifers cacli at £o 2s Gd and £5 5s respectively. Pigs.—There was again a small varding of fat pigs, but stores and weaners cainc forward in increased numbers. There was a keen demand for both classes with a consequent increase. on late rates. Dalgety and Company. Messrs Dalgety and Company Limited, report having held their weekly stock sale at Frankton sale yesterday as under:— Fat Sheep.—An average yarding and a good demand for all classes of fat sheep. Fat wethers were Is per head higher than last week, and prime ewes advanced 2s to 3s per head. Extra prime heavy wethers to 27s Gd; fatwethers, 20s to 245; unfinished, 18s to 19s 3d; extra heavy ewes, 22s IOd; tight fat ewes, 17s IOd; unfinished wethers, 15s 5d to 18s 9d. Fat Lambs.—Only a few pens yarded which sold at late rates. Best heavy woolly 17s to 19s; others, 14s to 15s Gd.

Store Sheep.—We sold a line of 7o white-faced ewe hoggets at 15s v to 15s sd; 173 wethers hoggets at 13s; cull hoggets, 8s 4d. Fat Cattle.—A full yarding met with a fair demand. Fat bullocks advanced 10s per head on light good quality steers. Prjces for heavy ox and cow beef were unchanged from last week’s quotations. We sold hejvy bullocks £0 17s Gd to £7 11s; light good quality steers, £4 17s Gd to £5 15s; prime fat cows, £3 17s Gd to £5; medium quality fat cows, £3 to £3 15s; light young cows, £2 to £3 2s. Store Cattle.—A moderate yarding and a good demand. We sold threoyear Holstein steers at £2 17s Gd to £3 ss; crossbred Jersey yearling heifers, 33s to 345; boner cows, 25s to 455.

Pigs,—A medium yarding of fat pigs came forward with an extra large entry of stores. Very few haconers were yarded, the fat entry comprising mostly porkers, and unfinished sorts, porkers selling at approximately 3s per head higher than last week s rates, whilst' stores sold readily at advanced prices under animated competition. We sold: —Baconers, up to £2; heavy porkers, £1 12s to £1 16s; medium porkers, £1 8s to £1 12s, light porkers, £l.4s to £1 7s; unfinished, 19s to £1 2s; stores, 19s to £1 3s; slips, good quality, £1; others, 14s to 17s Gd; best weaners, 14s; others, 10s 6d to 13s; choppers, £2 to £2 10s; sows in pig, £2 to £3 7s. Q. W. Vercoe and Co., Ltd. Messrs. G. W. Vercoe and Company, Limited, report having held their weekly stock sale at Frankton yesterday when a large yarding of fat wethers and a small yarding of tat ewes and lambs came forward. Competition throughout was keen and prices firmed. Particularly noticeable was this in the case of fat ewes and unfinished wethers which were In keen demand. On account of Messrs. Van Houtte and Nollett, of Te Uku, we sold a line of 72 prime fat two-tooth wethers from 27s 3d to 27s 6d, the purchasers being Mr. W. R. Shattock, Mr. R. M. Madill, of Hamilton, Mr. A. Pretty, of Matangi, and Mr. W. Waring, of Taupiri. A small yarding of fat lambs sold at late rates. Sheep: Prime heavy fat wethers, 27s 3d to 27s 6d; lighter prime wethers, 24s to 25s Gd; medium fat wethers, 21s to 235; unfinished wethers, 18s 3d to 19s; store wethers, to 15s 9d; prime heavy fat ewes, 20s to 23s Gd; lighter fat ewes, 16s to 18s Gd; heavy fat iambs, 18s Gd to 21s Gd; store ditto to 10s 9d.

Cattle: Ox and cow beef were penned in full numbers, ox beef firmed by about Is per 1001b,-while cow and heifer beef showed a rise of approximately 2s per 1001 b. Prime medium weight fat bullocks, sold from £6 10s to £6 19s; lighter fat bullocks, £5 15s to £6 7s 6d; unfinished, £4 10s to £5 ss; prime heavy fat cows, £5 to £59s; heavy fat cows, £4 5s to £4 15s; medium weights, £3 10s to £4 2s Gd; light, £2 10s to £3 os; prime heavy fat heifers, £4 15s to £5 7s Gd; lighter prime, £4 to £4 12s Gd; medium weight fat heifers, £3 5s to £3 15s; small and unfinished, £2 10s to £3 2s Gd; runners, to £3; vealers, to £2 10s. Pigs: Fat pigs came forward In small numbers. Prices obtained for porkers were from 2s to 3s per head higher than those of last week, while baconers remained unchanged. Light baconers, 36s to £2 2s; (no heavy baconers were yarded); heavy porkers 32s to 355; medium weights,- 27s to 30s; light, 23s to 265; choppers, to £2 ss. An exceptionally heavy yarding of store pigs met with a keen demand throughout and a total clearance was effected at advanced rates. Good stores, 21s to 23s Gd; slips, 16s to ißs Gd; small slips, ’2s to 15s; good weaners, 13s Gd to lGs; small ditto, 10s to 11s Gd; maiden Tamworth cross breeding sows, £2 10s to £2 19s.
