The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that Herr Robert Wagner, Nazi Governor of Baden, has issued a stern call to discipline. He reminds the Storm Troops and individual Nazis, especially the leaders of the Storm Troops, that they have committed acts showing serious disrespect for the Government and representing gross breaches of party discipline. Herr Wagner has instructed the Minister of the Interior to enforce the Government’s authority in all circumstances, If necessary by force. He says membership of the Nazi Party does not Justify the arrogatlon of official powers. Similar pronouncements reveal that the leaders of the party intend to stop local Nazi dictatorships in factories and administrative bodies. The gravity of the economlo situation In Germany necessitates the application'of the brake with desperate firmness. The great shipping lines and exporting conoerns like the Dye Trust report that unfavourable foreign opinion Is injuriously affecting tradeThe Government’s other nightmare is unemployment. This shows only the usual seasonal decline in spite of an intensive drive. * BERLIN, Aug. 1. Revised rules for Cabinet prooedure publicly remind members of the Reichstag they do not count, and that their co-operation is not required, even in regard to treaties with foreign Powers. Dictatorial powers have been conferred on the Chancellor, Herr Hitler, who alone passes new laws. In future these will be enforced Immediately instead of after a fortnight. The utterances of Ministers are to be “disciplined.” No one may .give an interview to the press except through the Nazi press department. Four well-known musicians, Kreis-" ler,.Hubermann, Casals and Schnabel, have declined to take part in the Berlin Philharmonic Society’s ,concerts as a protest against the Nazi’s antiSemitism. Herr Rosenfelder, founder of the Sports Club at Sannstadt, from which he was expelled because he was a Jew, committed suicide. He left a letter saying: “ Since I am prohibited from doing work I love, I am committing suicide in the hope of making Christian friends realise how Jews are treated in Germany.”
