AGRICULTURE IN BRITAIN. -
HELP FOR YOUNG FARMERS. / PRINCE OF WALES’ APPEAL. An appeal for £25,000 Is being launched In 'connection with the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, the movement designed to encourage and equip the rising generation of boys and girls in sto'ok-raising, horticulture, and rural affairs generally, says a London paper. More than 10,000 pamphlets setting forth the appeal, the object of whioh Is to establish the Federation on a permanent footing, are being sent out to the chief landed proprietors, the hunts, agricultural societies, firms associated with agricultural implement and food manufacture, and other persons interested in the movement throughout the country. The Prince of Wales, who has an Intimate knowledge of the work accomplished by the clubs, has expressed the hope that the appeal will be generously supported by all who have at heart the welfare of the younger generation In rural England. There are now more than 150 young farmers’ clubs established in Britain, and they are doing valuable work not only in training farmers and others who are going to live on the land but in helping to preserve rural life. They are fostering among all 'classes an increasing interest in the countryside. AVlien the movement began in England it captured the interest of the late Lord Northcliffe, and much of its early growth was due to the support given by him. In 1924 the Ministry of Agriculture gave the movement official recognition, and in the last two years the number of clubs has been more than doubled. It is hoped that eventually there will be a complete chain of clubs all over England and Wales.
