TROTTING CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The ninth annual meeting of th« Cambridge Trotting Club was held last evening, when the president, .Mr R. Hannon, presided over a good attendance of members. The annual report disclosed that the year had been very difficult for trotting. The club sustained a severe loss in the death of its secretary, the late Mr Walter Stopford. Much of the financial success of the annual totalisator meeting held on May 6, had been marred by inclement weather, hut* owing to further economies effected a net profit of just under resulted after taking into considera-i tion the refunds of Government taxation. While other avenues of re-j ceipts had fallen considerably sincelast year it was pleasing to note that the members’ subscription list had 1 been well maintained. j

The balance-sheet show T ed that the season commenced with a credit balance of £122 195.6 d and concluded with a debit balance of £225 2s sd. The profit and loss account -showed a ' net los? of £sll 15s. Assets totalled £6501 18s Gd with accumulated funds of £2434 8s 3d. . il% The secretary, Mr T. H- Hampshire, said that the loss showing of £sll 15s which was the position of accounts' att the present time, was caused by the inclement weather at the annual race meeting. UPPER MANQAPIKO DRAINAGE. BOARD’S CHAIRMAN RETIRES. After serving the Upper MangapikS Drainage Board as a member and as . ohalrman since the inception 19 years ago, Mr J. W. Peake announced his , retirement at a meeting of the board [ on Monday. Mr Peake has been chairman of the board since 1916 and has done very able work. A further meeting of the board will be held to consider filling the vacanoy.
