ALLEGED SLANDER,,
£IOO DAMAGES SOUGHT.. HOTEL PROPRIETOR SUED. SERIOUS CHARGES BROUGHT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. In the Magistrate’s Court William Thomas Russell claimed £IOO from George S. Simpson, proprietor of Warner’s Hotel, for alleged slander. s Counsel for plaintiff said Russell was dismissed, Simpson stating that owing to slackness of trade his services were not required. Later, when the union secretary saw Simpson in regard to a claim for wages, Simpson said that he had serious charges to make. He alleged that Russell had used cigarettes and had not paid for them, and had’used sums of money that had not been put in the till. (Proceeding.)
