'■ln the East Hampton, New York, tennis tournament, Miss M’ary Heeley, who ranks first in Britain, was beaten by Mrs Marjorie Van Ryn (United States), 6—4, 5 —7, 6—4. Miss Betty Nuthall (England) 'advanced to the final by defeating Miss Virginia Rice (Boston), G —3, G—3. Misses Heeley and Nuthall entered the semi-finals of the doubles, beating Miss Gruiekshank and Mrs Van Ryn, 4—6, G —2, 6 —2. Miss Margaret Scriven (England) and Miss Elizabeth Ryan (United States) heat Miss Sarah Palfrey (Carolina) and Miss Babcock (Los Angeles), 6—3, 6—4.
