BIG SCALE ADVERTISING

NEWSPAPERS THE BEST. BAKERS’ £160,000 CAMPAIGN. A big national advertising scheme to increase the consumption of bread was advocated at 'the annual conference of Master Bakers, Confectioners and Caterers at Hastings, says a London paper. It was the suggestion of Mr A. H. Povey, of Battle, Sussex. He cited the success of the “ Eat More Fruit” and “ Eat More Fish" campaigns, and declared that at least £150,000 should ■be raised by the bakers, in conjunction with the Millers’ Association, for a similar campaign. The annual total consumption of flour within the area 'covered by the association was, he said, roughly 30,000,000 sacks, so that a levy of 2d a sack would provide the money. Mr J. H. Merrett, of Cardiff, chairman of the executive committee, strongly favoured ’the newspaper a? the best medium for the campaign. “ My experience,” he said, “Is that there Is no advertising comparable with that of the dally Press for the purpose.” The conference carried the resolution unanimously.'
