SOUTH ISLAND CONDITIONS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reply to your correspondent “Puzzled” I desire respectfully to Inform him that on principle I refuse to be drawn into a Press controversy with one who prefers to “shoot from behind a hedge.” If he will be good enough to come Into the open and disclose his identity I shall be pleased to introduce him by letter to several farmers and business men of standing In the wheat-growing and pastoral districts of Canterbury whose opinions are authoritative, and I am certain that the Information he will obtain will prove conclusively that the pioture of present-day conditions in that province as painted by me Is unfortunately true In every particular. My former interview of two months ago referred particularly to mortgage conditions In Otago and Southland, and I am sorry if I have erred In not making that distinction quite dear at the time. With respect to my “poUtdal aspirations" I am quite prepared to allow “Puzzled” to remain puzzled.—l am, et °" WILLIAM BOYD. Matangi, July 27, 1933.
