Refusal of Sanotlon for Loan. —The refusal of the Local Government Loans Board to sanction the Auckland City Council loan of £133,700 was severely criticised at a special meeting of the council yesterday. A protest against the attitude of the board was contained in a motion carried unanimously. The resolution appealed to the ratepayers to support the loan when the poll was held.
The Menace of Ragwort. Additional reports have been received of the deadly effect of the ragwort plant on dairying herds, depastured during the winter on badly-infested properties. Some herdsmen in the Otorohanga district report losses of up to twenty head, others mention losses of 11, 13 and 14 head during the past two months.
