LONDON, June 30. The Wimbledon tennis tournament was continued to-day, when several prominent players were eliminated. The following are .the results:— Men’s Singles. Sutter is the second seeded player to suffer defeat. He unexpectedly lost straight sets to Hughes. Crawford is now considered a definite possibility for the championship. If Crawford defeats Stedman (New Zealand), he will meet Hughes in the quarter-finals. Crawford and McGrath (Australia), defeated Gregory and Wilde in the doubles as the result of superior combination. McGrath, however, was below form owing to a strained leg muscle, and lie was eliminated from the mixed doubles. Andrews, Quist and Turnbull passed through llie first round of the mixed doubles witjiout the slightest opposition. Stedman (New’ Zealand) who has been suffering from laryngitis, lias recovered with unexpected rapidity. It is now expected lie will play Crawford on Saturday afternoon. Wimbledon is growing in popularity yearly. Already all previous records have been broken.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM. MAY TOUR UNITED STATES. United Press Assn. —Elec. Jet. Copyright. NEW YORK, June 29. It is learned-that the United States Tennis Association is making an effort to secure the Australian Davis ’ Cup team for a modified tour of America. The idea is that the team should play only in the national singles in New York, the doubles in Boston, an exhibition match in Chicago, and the Soutli-west Pacific championships in Los Angeles. The Australian management Indicated that the learn will have had such a long playing season on their departure from Europe that they would like to return lo Australia direct. For that reason they were refusing to play in Japan.
