HAWKE’S BAY STRIKE
THE POSITION UNALTERED. TERMS OFFERED BY MEN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Friday. The position in regard to the relief workers’ strike in Napier and Hastings remains practically unaltered. The most important development to-day was a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Council of the National Union of Unemployed, which afterwards Issued the following statement: " Every effort is being made by the provincial council to effect a reasonable settlement and it is still hoped that a national strike will be averted. Certain concessions have been offered by a conference of local bodies. The Hawke’s Bay County Council has made certain offers which contain features to which the provincial council cannot agree. THE NATIONAL UNION. AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The National Union of Unemployed officially says that it has taken up the dispute of the Hawke's Bay Provincial Council. DIFFERENCE OF OPINION. NO STRIKE AT WAIPUICURAU. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, Saturday. At a special meeting of the Waipukurau branch of the National Union of Unemployed last night it was decided by a large majority not to strike at present. The Waipawa worklcss, it is understood locally, have resolved -upon striking in sympathy with the Hastings and Napier unemployed organisations.
