SWINE FEVER.
DEALING WITH OUTBREAK
SUSPICIOUS DISCOVERIES

Only one farm in the area at Johnsonville affected by swine fever remained to be dealt with to-day and the Director-General of Agriculture, Dr. C. J. Reakes, said it was hoped to complete the destruction of all diseased and contact pigs in that area to-morrow.
Following the discovery of two dead pigs on the foreshore at Point Howard, one of which was infected by the disease, a pig seen afloat by persons on the Eastbourne ferry steamer lias been secured and is being examined. Symptoms of a suspicious nature have been reported from Nai Nat, north of Lower Hutt, but the disease has not been definitely proved to exist there.
ALLAYING ALARM. SUPERVISION OF KILLINGS. FEILDING, Monday. The president of the New Zealand Bacon Curers' Association has Issued a statement to allay any alarm. He states that the outbreak is localised and the pigs are being destroyed under the supervision of the department. All pigs handled by bacon curers are killed on licensed premises under expert, supervision, all factories being subject to the inspection of the Government officers of health and agriculture. All bacon for human consumption is therefore under the strictest supervision.
