FARMERS’ UNION. WOMEN’S DIVISION. The Tirau branch celebrated Its fourth birthday at the May meeting, when Mrs C. T. Allen presided over an attendance of seventy members, consisting of local members and of representatives of the other seven bran'ches forming the Waikato East Provincial. The usual routine business was gone through and a social was arranged for the following Tuesday evening, and it was decided ito ask that a lecturer from lire Agricultural Department attend the July meeting to give a talk or demonstration on pruning. The following programme, arranged by the evcr-cnergctic social committee, was greatly appreciated:—• Pianoforte solo, Mrs L. Bishop; competition, Mrs L. Hancock; banjo and piano duet, Misses Jean and Madge Carrulh; song, Mrs F. Ward; competition, Mrs G. T. Allen; pianoforte solo. Mrs Newton. Mrs J. Hancock’s trophy was won by Mrs Van Veen, and Mrs G. T. Allen’s trophy by Mrs W. Amoore. Afternoon lea was served by the hostesses, Mcsdames L. Bishop, S. J. Bear, Cochrane and Miss Seaman, ami an appreciated little speech by Miss Marshall, of Cambridge, brought the proceedings to a close.
PERSONAL
Miss V. Cowan is at present on a fortnight’s holiday. Miss P. Winters lias returned after spending some months at Takapuna. Mr and Mrs Harvey are spending the school holidays in Auckland. Mrs W. Fitzgerald, who has been an inmate of 11 1 o Waikato Hospital, lias returned to 1 1 or home. Miss Ruth Allen has returned from a two months’ holiday spent at the East Coast.
