HINT TO GOVERNMENT.

ADVERTIBINQ FOR PROSPERITY*.

STIMULATION OF TRADE

A suggestion that the Government should resort more freely to the use of newspaper advertising as an aid to peace and prosperity was made by Mr James Strong; president of the Institute of incorporated Practitioners in Advertising, at the annual dinner of the institute in London. Press advertising, Mr Strong said, could mould public opinion, establish public good will, and create for the State as well as Industry and commerce a solid backing for a sound and reasoned policy. Governments were often restrained from taking necessary action by fear that it would be in advance of public, opinion. If they made use of advertising they need fear no longer. Mr Strong said they had been advised to “spend more” to Increase employment, but It was thought that trade would receive a far greater Impetus if, by judicious advertising, producers would stimulate desires for their products and keep before the public opportunities for their satisfaction.
