The Lady Autumn has arrived For the leaves are turning gold, And the harvests all have thrived As the summer days grew old. Lady Autumn Is very fair, With eyes of brown and red-gold halrt Clad In a gown of cobweb sheen Coloured crimson, gold and green. And at the touch of her magic brueh That feels as soft as softest plush, The leaves turn scarlet, yellow and brown, And on the low winds float down. At night the orange moon In the eky Looks down on all from her throne on high, And watches the leaves as they gently fall In answer to the night wind’s call. When the pleasant Autumn Is waning Old Jack Frost will soon be reigning Over the bleak and dreary land Where the naked trees now’ stand. i —Originai—Sent by. ilavl* JLookUjk t
IF I WIRE A LITTLE ELF. If S wen a little elf land lived In Elfin Town, Perhaps I'd sleep upon a bed of snowy thistledown, From aoorn oups I'd drink my tea And ask the fays „to sup with me. I’d ride upon a tul's back when tired of flying high, And I would be so happy and never ory or sigh. ■When night came round I'd give * bound, And land upon the thistledown; Then I’d go to sleep and dream Sweet dreams of Elfln Town. —Sent by Zena Blunt, IF NO ONE EVER MARRIES ME. If no one ever marries me And I don't see Why they should. For you say I am not pretty, And I'm seldom very good. If no one ever marries mo I shan't oare very much, I’ll buy a parrot In a oage, And a little rabbit hutch, And a little lamb both neat and clean That I can take to town. And when I’m growing really clfl, Say twenty-eight or nine, I’ll buy a little orphan girl, And bring her up as mine. —Sent by “Scarlet Pimpernel” ■ SVaAtfik
