Acting upon medical advice, His Excellency the Governor-General, owing to muscular strain, will not undertake any public engagements during the next few days.
Mr C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand* Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, is spending a feAV days in Rotorua.
Mr John BroAvnlee, the distinguished singer Avho is touring New Zealand, will sail for Sydney by the Wanganella on May 26.
The committee of the Auckland Little Theatre Society has elected Mr J. LoAve as president. He succeeds Mr W. B. Brittain, who has resigned.
Lieutenant F. Baker and Lieutenant A. R. Griffiths, of the Waikato Mounted Rifles, have been transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I.
Lieutenant G. R. Yeoman, of the Waikato Mounted Rifles, is promoted to be captain, according to notice in the New Zealand Gazette.
Mr F. Purnell has been re-elected chairman of the Wanganul-Rangitikei Electric-poxver Board.

Mr. A. W. Beaven, of Christchurch, will complete 50 years’ service on the board of directors of the Christchurch Y.M.C.A. at the end of the present year.
Lord and Lady Latymer and their daughter, the Hon. Mercy MoneyCoutts, who have been touring New Zealand, left Wellington by the Rangltata yesterday on their return to England.
Mr T. Rlgg, assistant-director of the Cawthron Institute, at Nelson, is visiting Hamilton in connection with (he soil survey of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in this district.
The Minister of Employment, the Hon. A. Hamilton, made an inspection of relief works in the North Shot'9 (Auckland) areas yesterday on the first stage of his journey to the North Auckland district. Later lie went on to Whangarei. This afternoon’he will go to Bussell, where he will spend the week-end.
NeAvs has been received that Mr. E. C. Cutten, senior magistrate at Auckland, who left for Sydney by the Wanganella .on March 31, en route to England, has been seriously . ill. Mr. Cutten is a passenger on the P. and O. liner Balranald, which left Sydney on April li for London, via Suez ney on April 11 for London, via Suez.
There was a crowded gathering last evening at a valedictory ceremony In Napier in honour of the two departing commissioners of Napier, Mr J. S. Barton - and Mr L. B. Campbell. The Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse, referred to the fine record set by the commissioners in the past tAvo years. Mr Barton Avas presented Avith a silver kiwi mounted on a base, the wholeforming a paperweight. Mr Campbell was presented with a cut glass decanter and glasses.
