GUILTY OF THEFT.
SEVERAL CHARGES ADMITTED. ALLEGED OFFENCE AT HAMILTON. AUCKLAND, Friday. In the Police Court fourteen chargee of breaking and entering houses !n Auckland and stealing goods of a total •value of £341 were admitted by Harris O'Neill, aged 32, described as a chemist. He had absconded from bail In 1926. In addition to pleading guilty to the breaking and entering charges, O’Neill admitted the theft of £2O from David Helps on February 18, 1926. He did not plead on charges of stealing a motor-cycle and side-chair, valued at £IOO, ' at Hamilton on January S, 1926. David Helps said that in 1926 lie had seen an advertisement asking for young men who were willing to travel. . lie replied to the advertisement and received h. telegram asking him to call i at a certain private hotel. Witness did so and saw accused, who said he was a representative of United Artists Association of New Zealand and was looking for young men to lour the North Island to check, the takings of films. Wages were to be £5 a week,but accused said a fidelity bond must be deposited. Witness paid £2O the same day, partly by cheque and partly in notes. Accused then left the room and told the witness to wait half an hour.' Witness waited, but accused did not return. Accused pleaded guilty after the hearing of each individual charge and had no comments to make, lie was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, on the local charges. •• i believe a number of charges is waiting him in the South," said De-tective-Sergeant McHugh.
