ELECTRICAL STORM.

NEWSTEAD VISITATION. ELDERLY WOMAN TERRIFIED. The electrical storm which was experienced at Newstead on Saturday morning was preceded by a thunderclap of unusual severity. Simultaneously with the initial clap the electric switch-board in Mr W. Griflln’s home was struck and flew to pieces, while insulators on the power lines were thrown across the road. As soon as notification was received of the storm, gangs of electrical workers and post and telegraph officials were on the scene restoring the power and remedying the defects to the telephone service. A particularly unenviable experience befel Mrs Griflln, who had only recently returned from hospital. She was resting in bed .when the storm broke and the windows In the room cracked and fell with a resounding crash. Mrs Griflln screamed and fainted. The other members of the family were sitting in another room and were thrown into a panic. Other than the damage occasioned to Mr Griflln’s property no other destruction is reported, although houses within a seven-mile radius were severely shaken.
