THE STAFF OF LIFE.

VALUE OF BREAD IN DIET. NEW LOAF PRODUCED. It is a strange fact that few people •stop to consider the food value of their daily bread, and the Important place it occupies in the diet of man, woman, and child. Bread is a valuable component in that it supplies the human body with carbohydrates, which create heat and energy, its yeast contributes the essential vitamin B, and, made with milk, bread furnishes the ■ very necessary calcium for bone and body building. It is one of the most digestible foods and this, combined with its low cost per iinit -of energy, makes it the foundation of a balanced diet. Bread is a necessity, and because of its widespread daily use, its value must be regarded in terms of health benefit. A loaf made with inferior quality ingredients and badly baked has little or no value from this aspect, while there are many other deficiencies to be considered. It is truly said that bread is the staff of life, but a weak staff gives little or no assistance, and, likewise, bread that does not come up to a definite health •standard has no food value. For many years Mr F. Findlay of Hamilton, whose name is widely known among the bakers of New Zealand and Australia, has been working on the problem of pro’duoing bread which combines to tho highest degree the essentials of health. He has devoted much time to this ta3k, and has at last evolved a loaf that sets an entirely new standard. This new loaf, which Is now being prepared for oommeroial use, incorporates ingredients which produce a delicious flavour, longer keeping properties, and make the bread a real health food. Mr Findlay is justly proud of this, his latest product, and such is his faith In It that he will •gladly give a sample to anyone who desires to try the new bread.
