The special forecast by the Government meteorologist covering the WaikatoThames Valley area is a follows : Forecast: Strong west to south-west winds of gale force in places. Weather cool changeable and squally with showers. Seas rough. General inference: The depression over the South Tasman Sea Thursday deepened considerably as it moved .■on to the Dominion that night. An anti-cyclone still covers Australia. THE RAINFALL. (Recorded at Ruakura.) Rainfall for 24 hours ended 9.30 this morning, .45ins. Rainfall for previous 24 nours .Oins. Total for April 2.3 Gins. Rainfall for year to dale, 13.87in5. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: An intense westerly disturbance is moving over the Dominion, while an extensive' anti-cyclone still covers Australia. Indications are for westerly winds, strong to gale force, backing soon to south-westerly. Seas rough generally in New Zealand waters. Strong south-west winds to gales in the eastern Tasman Sea, with rough to 'heavy iseas. Weather squally and changeable generally. Rain in districts with a westerly aspect, heavy in places and extending to parts of the eastern districts, with a southerly change. Temperatures becoming cold.'
