OIL DISAPPEARS.
ABATTOIRS MYSTERY*. - POLICE ON TRACK OF GANG. (From a Correspondent). SYDNEY, April 12. The Criminal Investigation Department is investigating -the disappearance of more than 500 gallons of neatsfoot oil from Homebush abattoirs. The methods employed for the removal of the fluid have hitherto been a complete mystery. The oil was taken from vats on the top floor of a three-storey building at the abattoirs. The oil which is valued at 4s 6d per gallon has been disappearing regularly since December. The police later arrested a contractor, who was later in the day charged with having in his possession five gallons of oil reasonably suspocted to have been stolen.
The arrest followed the investigations into the disappearance of 500 gallons of neatsfoot oil from the Homebush abattoirs.
During the past two months, detectives have tested more than a dozen samples of various oils. The arrested man was well-known at the abattoirs.
