RETURNED SOLDIERS.
RAGLAN ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING HELD. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Raglan Returned Soldiers’ Association. Mr B. T. D. Hume, president, presided All present stood in silenoe in memory of members who had passed away during the year. Mr G. Pooley congratulated the president and committee upon the able way in which they had conducted the affairs of the association. The president, in his report, said that since it was formed at the first meeting on October 28, 1931, the branch had shown remarkable'' vitality and progress. There were over 100 ex-servicemen in the district, but as a number lived across the harbour they came into the Ngaruawahia Association. However, fhere were 42 financial members on the roll. Affiliation with the AVaikato Returned Soldiers’ Association had proved a very wise step; The association enjoyed a prestige which had gained the goodwill and co-operation of the community.
The president referred feelingly to the death of two comrades during the year—Messrs J. N. Newton and Hinga Matthew. I’he balance sheet showed a healthy position. The Relief Fund Account shoxved proceeds of sale of poppies £6 2s 3d, of dance £6 11s 7d, from Canteen Fund £9 19s 6d, and from Raglan Town Board £5. After making a number of grants there remained a credit balance of £ls 2s 4d. The General Account also showed a balance of £1 16s 4d. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted: Patron, General Sir A. Russell; president, Mr B. T. D. Hume (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs F. H. Wright and J. Phillips; committee, Messrs F. Gibbison, A. V. Cornes, V. G. Grinlinton, E. Featherstonhaugh; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. N. Bernard (re-elected) ; delegate to Waikato Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr F. H. Wright. The president, the secretary and Mr Grinlinton were re-elected a committee to deal with matters of urgency. Anzao Day. Arrangements were made for the Anzac Day parade. The Returned Soldiers’ Association, with the Waikato Mounteds, will fall in at 1.30 p.m. at the Parish Hall and march to the Town Hall; also to the Cenotaph to place a wreath. Major J. A. D. Ritchie will be in command. It was decided to ask schools to endeavour to arrange for attendance of children at the memorial service.
