THE BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

' ■ ——————■«» Nominations for the election of the Mayor and members of * Hamilton Borough Council closed yester t» y, with the result that there are three candidates for the mayoralty and 17 candidates for the 12 seats on the Borough Council. From the list of nominations it is apparerit that several men of ability have responded to the call for public service, and while the municipal electors may have wished an even greater offering of candidates, it seems that there are still many capable men to whom the duties of public life have no appeal.

The three candidates for the mayoralty' are all men who are well known in Hamilton. Mr Fow, who has filled the mayoral office for several terms prior to his defeat at the election of 1931, possesses a record of devoted service to the town, and lie will find many friends to support him. Mr Lafferty, although lie lias not previously held mayoral office, is a councillor of long standing, and Dr. Pinfold the present Mayor, has held office in a time of stress and trouble, which has served to throw him well into the limelight, and his services should carry their own recommendation.

For the council ten of the present members are again offering themselves for election, and seven new condidates have come forward. Of the latter, three, at least, have strong claims to election by reason of their administrative talents already exhibited. Of the remainder there will be none who is unworthy of support.
