German Politics. Having recently been given an illustration of a peaceful revolution carried out in Siam without bloodshed, New Zealand readers are now being entertained with alarming reports of the preelection fever in Germany. A "situation” has been developing for a considerable time and the Government's efforts to take matters lirmlv in hand have been of unprecedented severity. Now, however, matters are made worse because the measures adopted have not been sufficiently thorough to he completely successful. In its effort to muzzle the hostile press, the Government has only succeeded in increasing the hitlVness of feeling which has already been engendered. and its inability to control the excesses of its followers is not l-nppv augury for its prospects of controlling the whole nation. Germany is looking for a change in Government. Whether that; elminre will lie towards Monarchy or a move Communistic form of Socialism will depend largely upon the way in which the present Government bundles the situation.
