REUNION OF PIONEERS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The prosperous town of Hamilton has attracted people from a.ll parts of the Dominion, and its population Is now cosmopolitan, and partly on that account there is a danger that its romantic past may be forgotten so that Is well for us to recognise that there are still amongst us many direct descendants of the old 4th Waikato Regiment to whom this centre owes its foundation. The announcement that a picnic is being arranged this week-end, to draw the old identities together will be welcomed. We contemplate with pride the wonderful progress of this favoured district, and would urge that every endeavour should be made to preserve intact those links which bind us to the heroic past. At these reunions old memories are revived; interesting incidents arc rescued from, oblivion, and faces will brighten as one and another remember the days of old. In these strenuous days it will bo an inspiration to this generation to hear the recital of some of the difficulties that greeted the pioneers, and the courage and resource they displayed in surmounting those hardships.. They built with patience, and (fortitude and we have succeeded to a heritage of which we may well he proud. Out of one of these reunions we may collect and conserve incidents which in years to come, may prove of great historical value and interest for these reasons, but principally because of the genuine pleasure it gives those still left with us the -writer wishes. Che function every success.—l am, etc., JOHN R. FOW.
