LOCAL OBSERVATIONS. (Messrs. Balfour M. Irvine and Webster, Ltd., supplies the following observations of the weather: — Barometer. Friday • 30.05 Thermometer. Max. Min. Thursday 78.0 53.0 During the past 24 hours .0 inch of rain fell. Mean temperature 72 degrees. SOUTH AUCKLAND AREA. SPECIAL FORECAST. (By Govt. Meteorologist.) The special forecast by the Government meteorologist covering the WaikatoThames Valley area is as follows : Forecast: Moderate to fresh and increasing north to north-west winds. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but scattered rain developing, especially in high levels. Seas moderate. General Inference: The pressure has risen still further and a slight anti-cyclone is centred north of the Bay of Plenty. A fresh westerly depression is, however, advancing across the South Tasman Sea; at present it is not very deep. THE RAINFALL. (Recorded at Ruakura Farm.) Rainfall for 24 hours ended 9.30 this morning, .Oin. Rainfall for previous 24 hours . ,17in. Total for February, 4.44 in. Rainfall for year to date, 7.07 in. The Weather Bureau wires: The indications for 24 hours from 9 a.m. this day are for moderate to strong northerly winds. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather. Barometer falling slowly.
