REPLY TO CRITICISM

TRAMWAY BOARD AND CORONER. EVIDENCE OF WITNESSES. CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Tre manager of the Tramway Board has replied to the Coroner's oomment on tho refusal of a tramway employee to make a statement to the police concerning an accident. “There has evidently,” he said, “been some misunderstanding in the matter as a result of the motdrman being away on account of sickness, and also because the Tramway Board’s solicitor was absent on holiday.” “ft has been the practice of the board to supply the names and addresses of witnesses to the police, as was done in this case, and it was a complete surprise to hear that the police had not secured a copy of the motorman’s statement to the board, which was available.
