OLD GIRLS’ AMD OLD BOYS’ CLUB

LADIES’ BELAY TO MOHBINSVILLE

Good handicapping provided keen and exciting tussles, but few competitors showed any evidence of brilliance at the Old Boys’ and Old Girls’ Swimming Glub's carnival which was held in tbe Municipal Baths on Saturday evening. Singularly few fast times were recorded and the majority of tn. 1 performances, with the exception of the diving, which showed a marked improvement, were well below centra standard. Old Boys won the principal event, the men’s inter-club relay, by a good margin from Y.M.G.A., while in the ladies’ relay, Morrinsville took the verdict. The inter-house relay for the Lion Challenge Cup, which was scheduled to be decided at the carnival, was not held. As was expected the diving was of an improved standard both in execution and variety, the ladies’ section in particular being very good. The first water polo match of the ■season was also staged. Old Boys defeating Whitiora by three goals to two. The following are the results, the clubs represented being Morrinsville (M), Whitiora (W), Old Boys (O.B.), Old Girls (0.G.), Y.M.G.A. The teams were together over tho first lap and it was not until the second that Morrinsville and Y.M.G.A. began to forge ahead. Morrinsville increased their lead in the third length, and despite a good effort by Y.M.G.A’s. fourth swimmer, triumphed by a yard. Old Girls were third, four yards back. Time 1.58.
