ROWING CARNIVAL.

THE HAMILTON REGATTA. RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED. DRAW FOR POSITIONS. Record entries have been received for the Hamilton regatta, to be held on the river next Monday, and present indications point to the fixture being a great success. Ten crews, representing clubs throughout the province, and some from farther afield, will be engaged in the various events, which have all attracted good fields. In at least two races ten crews will faco the starter. Added interest Is given this year's regatta in the appearance of three crews' from the Auckland Ladies’ Rowing Club. It is stated that the women have excellent style and combination, and their race should be one of the features of the day.

Owing to unforseen circumstances (he Auckland provincial eight, which was advertised to meet the Hamilton eight on Monday, will he unable to appear, but the local club has accepted a challenge from the West End Club to row for the Somerville Shield. The West End crew is reported to be a strong combination, and as the Hamilton representatives are at the top of their form a keen contest can be expected. A total of 64 entries has been received for the programme of ten events, and included among the competing oarsmen arc many of New Zealand’s best known exponents. The draw for positions was made by the Mayor of Hamilton, Dr. F. D. Pinfold, and Detective-Scrgt. J. Thompson, during tho week-end. In the draw, which appears below, Number One position is nearest the western bank, or town side of the river, rowing towards the boathouse. EIGHT-OAR CHAMPIONSHIP, AU C ELAND, Monday. It was considered that the conditions were not favourable l'or the licit of Hie provincial eight-oar championship between Auckland and Waitemata on Saturday afternoon and Hie race was postponed until February It. St. George's, which now lias a bye, will meet Hamilton on the same dale. The final between Hie two winning crews will be decided at Hie provincial regatta on February 18.
