Mr W. R. Ellery has Been appointed deputy-Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths at Mamaku.

Sir Berkley Sheffield and his sister, Lady Grosvenor, who have been visiting New Zealand, left Wellington for England yesterday by the Rangitata.

(Mr Culford Bell, chief announcer at station IYA, left by the Marama yesterday for a short holiday in Sydney.

Mr Albert Bryant, of Hamilton, who has been studying music In Germany and England for a year, expeots to retu to New Zealand about the middie of the year.

Constable W. Carran has been Gazetted clerk and bailiff of the Magistrate’s Court at Kawhla, and Constable A. Doel Is to hold a similar position at Cambridge.

The following appointments as Registrars of Births and Deaths of Maoris are Gazetted: —Mr L. W. Leadbeater, Matamata; Mr O. V. Lattirnore, Morrinsville.

Hamilton Hotel guests Include Messrs S. M. Moscrip (Gisborne), W. G. Boyd, Thos. Fahey (Auckland), M. Johnson and F. R. Jones (Wellington).

Australian guests at the Hamilton Hotel are Messrs J. U. Ricot, G. Seggle (Melbourne) and H. J. Ott (Sydney).

On account of 111-health Mr James Gilbert has resigned from the chairmanship of the Hamilton Fire Board, after two years In office. Mr Gilbert had been a member of the board for seven years.

Dr. Stanley Wilson, formerly of Wellington, recently passed hts F.R.C.3. final examination in London. He was one of four (out of thirtyseven who sat), to get through, and the only New Zealander.

News from London states that Mr Guy Marriner, of Auckland, who lias been in Europe for some years, lias been reaping fresh laurels as a pianist. He has lately been giving recitals at Vienna, which have gained the encomiums of the critics. Mr Marrtner's repute has spread afield, for he ii to play Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto" with orchestra, at Lemberg, In Poland. Mr Marriner was in Hamilton some years ago on a Chautauqua programme.

Mr Lewis Taylor, of Wellington, who was very severely burned in an aeroplane crash at Johnsonville In September, has undergone several operations in a private hospital and is making good progress towards recovery. However, it is expected that he will not he able to return home for some months.
