ASSAULT IN PARK.

'TWO YOUNG MEN CHARGED. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. AUCKLAND, Friday. In the Police Court yesterday a hawker,.Leslie John Walding, aged 24 and a fruiterer, Claud Harold Miller, aged 21, were charged with robbing Eric George Oliver of 3s 3d on January 11, using personal violence. Miller was further charged with assaulting Oliver. Evidence was given by Oliver, a young man, that he saw the two accused at a dance in Karangahape Road. He accompanied them when attempts were made to obtain liquor at hotels, and, at the suggestion of accused, he went through Myers Park. Both men assaulted him and went through his pockets, 3s 3d being missed subsequently. A statement made by Miller was produced. Miller admitted the affair, hut said Wilding had knocked Oliver down and liaci gone through his pockets. Miller denied striking lhe victim of the assault. The accused pleaded not guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
