The Governor-General and the Lady Bledisloe left for Nelson on Thursday in order to be present at iitho dedication, services of the New Nelson Cathedral, and also to undertake other official engagements In that city. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington at the beginning of next week.
The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, accompanied by his secretary Mr J. T. Waugh, is in Hamilton today. They will return to Wellington to-morrow evening. Mr. S. J. Fortescue, clerk to the Otorohanga- County Council, has left for a holiday trip to Australia.
Mr E. V. Sutherland, of Auckland, was here to-day.
Archdeacon F. G. Evans, of New’ Plymouth, Is visiting Hamilton this week-end.
Rev. Clarence Eaton is in a private hospital in New Plymouth to undergo a minor operation.
The promotion of Lieutenant E. R. V. Petrie, of Hamilton, to the rank of captain, is gazetted.
Mr A. Commons, of Auckland, stipendiary steward to the New Zealand Trotting Association, is in Hamilton.
Mr. F. T. Symes is Gazetted as a member of the Fireblight Committee of the Te Kauwhata Commercial Fruitgrowing District, vice Mr. E. V. Palmer.
Mr. J. C. Port, secretary of Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, Wellington, has retired after 52 years’ service with the firm.
Notification of the recognition of Mr G. T. Dawson as honorary DeputyConsul of Greece at Wellington is given in the latest Gazette.
A Gazette notice states that the appointment of Mr 11. F. Johnston, K.C., as honorary Consul of the Netherlands at Wellington has been recognised provisionally.
Mr Znne Grey will reach Auckland by the Monterey on Monday morning, and as soon as his luggage, and fishing equipment have been transferred to Ids boats lie will leave for the. camp which has been prepared for him at Mercury Bay.
Mr James A. McPherson, superintendent of public parks, gardens and reserves at Invercargill, has been appointed by the Christchurch Domains Board as curator of the Botanic Gardens and parks at Christchurch. There were 54 applicants from alt over the Dominion.
Mr F. C. Chichester, the New Zealand aviator, arrived at Wellington to-day by the Runhine from London. Mr Chichester achieved fame by tils flights from England to Australia In .1930 and from New- Zealand lo Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island early last year. Mr Chichester was seriously injured when he crashed in Japan in August. 1931. lie has since been recuperating in England.
