TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the T« Awamutu Borough Council was held last evening, when the Mayor, Mr. C. G. Downes, presided. The works committee’s report was adopted. It stated that building permits to the value of £1721 were Issued during the month. The Library. The borough solicitors advised the council of the receipt from the un-der-secretary for lands, of the Minister’s formal approval of the use of the funds derived from the lease of the library site, for .the purchase for library purposes of the Te Awamutu oluh property. The motion to pass the ■account w f as carried with some opposition. The Mayor mentioned that there was certain furniture in the club that would be of use to the library. This had been conservatively valued at over £2O; and he had eventually put in an offer for £2O. The Mayor’s action was conflmed. Cr. North said it would be as well to lay by a certain amount each year toward a sinking fund, to enable the library site that is now leased to be bought in, in case the present lessee did not renew his lease. —Referred to the legal and finance committee. Domain Board. Members then sat as the Domain Board. A plan of Victoria Park submitted by Mr. J. W. Civil, in connection with the local bowling club’s application for more ground was considered; also one from the croquet club. The Mayor suggested meeting on the ground and inspecting It as a body, and this was agreed to. The Boy Srouts’ committee was granted the use of Albert Park on February 25, the object being a district rally.
