ENGLISH TWO-Y'EAR-OLD. 8. Wootton'* two-year-old, Jim Thomas, won his eighth raoe In eleven starts on September 29. The event was the Newmarket Stakes, of £667 to the winner, and Lady Derby’s Chi Chi was given suoh a good chanoe of beating Jim Thomas that tho latter started at only 11 to 10 on. Notwithstanding Jim Thomas had 9.8, to Chi Chl’a 8.9, he got home five lengths ahead of the latter. However, some of the critics say Jim Thomas Is obviously not as good as was supposed earlier In tho season, and It Is suggested that considerable care will be taken to avoid first-class opposition next season. Wootton oan be relied on to place Jim Thomas to advantage, and the colt has already given the good return of £7013 In stakes for the 280gns he oost as a yearling.
