TRADE AGREEMENT.
NEW ZEALAND AND CANADA. “NOT WORTH THE PAPER.” (By Telegraph.—Preis Association.) WANGANUI, Thursday. “As far as Its value to the New Zealand industry is concerned, the trade agreement signed at Honolulu by the Hon. Downie Stewart and Mill. If. Stevens, on behalf of New Zealand and Canada respectively, is not worth the paper it Is written on,” said Mr W. A. lorns, chairman of the Dairy Board, in an interview to-day. Mr lorns said there was a vital clause in the agreement which made ■provision that, notwithstanding the fact that New Zealand exporters of dairy produce were prepared to pay high import duties, they had to have the acquiescence of the Canadian Government before produce could enter Canada. On the other hand, there was no such protection as far as New Zealand .was concerned. The Canadian Government was in a position to refuse to let New Zealand produce in.
