PERSONAL.

Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, arrived in Hamilton this morning. He will return to Wellington tomorrow night.

Mr W. P. Russell, of Wellington, is in Hamilton.

Mr E. J. Clendon, of Thames, is in Hamilton.

Dr. E. H. B. Milsom, of Auckland, was In town to-day.

Mr C. B. Webster, secretary of the Taranaki Jockey Club, New Plymouth, is in Hamilton.

Mr F. McManemin, of Auckland, was among the visitors in Hamilton to-day.

The Manawatu Competitions Soicety has elected Mr M. 11. Oram a life member in recognition of his services over a large period of years.

Mr D. McCaskill, 8.A., has been appointed senior inspector of the Wellington education district as from February next, and Mr W. J. Boden, who lias held the position of actingsenior inspector, will he transferred to Auckland at that time. Mr C. R. Cooke (formerly of Hamilton), who has been managing editor of the Thames Star for ten years, was on Wednesday the recipient of a presentation from Hie staff on severing his connection with the paper. Mr H. M. Gnustad, of Wellington, obtained the highest average marks in Australia and New Zealand In the final examination of the Australasian Institute of Secretaries, held last September. He has thus qualified for the institute’s gold medallion. Mr J. Porteous, of Huntly, obtained a sectional pass. Sergeant A. E. Rowell, the officer In charge of the Otahuhu police station, will retire shortly. Next Monday will see the close of his official service, when he will represent tlui police in the Otahuhu Magistrate’s Court, and vacate office on three months’ leave. Ills 40 years’ continuous service will expire next February. Advice that he has been successful in the entrance examination of the military staff college, Camberley, England, lias been received hv Captain G. 11. Clifton, M.C., of Auckland, adjutant to the Ist Field Company and Northern Signal Depot. Captain Clifton will leave for England on November 21), arriving in lime to commence his two years’ course in January.
