The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and the Lady Bledisloe paid an official visit to Levin yesterday. The Vice-Regal party was welcomed by the Mayor, Air. Goldsmith, the county chairman, Air. Alonk, and the member of Parliament lor the district, Air. J. Linklater, at a large public gathering in tiie Gardens. Their Excellencies visited the Levin public school and made a motor tour of the district. Sir Alexander Roberts has been appointed local director of the New Zealand Insurance Company’s Trust Department at Wellington. Mr. A. 11. Wright, ex-commissioner of police, returned to New Zealand by the Port Fremantle which arrived at Lyttelton on Sunday from London. Messrs A. J. Toogood, D. Bohan, E. A. Sevier (Wellington), G. Walker, S. J. Ryburn, G. Molloy, H. G. Jeffery, A. C. Pawson, E. AV. Inder, 11. R. McKenzie and A. Fairly (Auckland), are among the guests at the Hamilton Hotel. The position of clerk to the Te Kauwhata Town Board, which was made vacant by the resignation of the late Air. G. Mclnnes, has been filled by the appointment of Air. T. W. Wilkins, of Taniwha. Mr. Wilkins has been resident in the district for a long period. Air 11. A 7 alder, of Hamilton, Rotary District Governor, was a guest of honour at tiie A4 7 eltington Rotary Club on Tuesday. Mr Valder, accompanied by his daughter, is about to visit the clubs of the South Island and will preside at the Rotary Conference to lie held at Palmerston North at the end of February. Air. J. Roden, inspector of schools in Wellington, and Air. 11. D. Prichard, inspector of schools in Dunedin, are to be transferred to Auckland, according to advice received from the Educational Department at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board yesterday. The inspectors are to take up their duties early in February. At the general session of the Auckland district .Methodist Synod, it was announced that after a ministry of 41 years, during the last 14 of which lie has acted as general secretary for foreign missions, Hie Rev. AV. A. Sinclair would retire shortly from active work. Synod recommended that lie should tic appointed a supernumerary minister at the Dominion conference, to be held in Auckland next February. Perry, moved that the secretary place on record (he hoard’s appreciation of Mr Ambury's services as chairman of directors and a director over a long period. Air G. A. Watt has been appointed to replace Air Amlniry on the directorate of the company.
