FORM OF THE CANDIDATES. The Spring meeting of the Waikato Racing Club, which will be opened on Saturday and concluded on Monday, has attracted splendid fields. The track at Te Rapa, on which there is a good sole of grass, will provide excellent going and some fast times should be recorded. Sweet Lap, who figures in the Trial Stakes field, is owned by Mr J. Clothier, of Matamata. She is a four-year-old filly by Lapidary—Sweet Colleen, the dam of Lord Val. liluminelli is an acceptor for the Hautapu Hack Handicap (seven furlongs), and the Taupiri Hack Handicap (six furlongs), on Saturday. It is likely that the former race will be selected for this member of A. Tinker’s team. L. F. Faulkner will be the rider. Te Koroke was placed in work at. Cambridge in the earlier part of the season. The Humbug—Tigritiya gelding, who was fairly useful on the flat, is to endeavour to add to his stake earnings as a Jumper. He is In the hurdle race on Saturday and his pace should be of some advantage. Arawa Rose, who ha?' her headquarters at Te Awamrtu, Is a four-year-old half-sister, by Musketoon, to Eager Rose. The former finished third to Puss Moth and Book Law in the Fairfield Handicap at Te Rapa in May. On that showing Arawa Rose is a possibility among the Trial Slakes field on Saturday. Kanapa showed some promising form last season when.he had a second and three thirds to his credit from six starts. The Illumination —Kiki gelding, who is owned by Mr Geo. Paul, of Te Awamutu, is in the Trial Stakes on Saturday. On his past form and the manner in which he has been working, Kanapa is capable of taking a part in the settlement of the issue.

True Blood is an acceptor for the Waikato Cup. The Archery—Bonny Helen horse, has been a good stake earner at Te Rapa. It is unlikely that True Blood will parade on Saturday unless some rain should fail in the interval. Tapapa made a good showing over hurdles at the Pakuranga meeting. He assisted in the running on that occasion and finished third to Thespisand Te Homai. Tapapa. who has his headquarters at Cambridge, is to race over hurdles at Te Rapa. Demylus, who is an acceptor for the Trial Stakes, is trained at Ellerslie. This flve-year-oid gelding by Polymestor—Ottawa has shown some pace on occasions this season. Now that he is more advanced in condition, Demylus is likely to hold on better in his racing ahefd. Imamint has the double engagement on Saturday of the Hautapu Hack Handicap and the open sprint, the Cambridge Handicap. The Catmint —Ra Aroha mare has 9.1 in the former and 7.1 in the latter. Imamint Is coming back to form, following a brief let up through injury. She made good showings in her Whangarei engagements and has been striking out nicely in her subsequent work on the tracks at Ellerslie. Ruby Dawn proved a useful stake earner last season. She was started on twenty-one occasions for four wins, five seconds and two thirds. The Day Comet —Ruby mare is to have her opening start of the latest term in the Hautapu Hack Handicap, but may not be forward enough to give of her best. Whirlalong has been located at Te Rapa since the start of the season. The Whirlwind—Lucena filly displayed some useful form in two-year-old company. If she could run up to it in the Trial Stakes Whirlalong would be in the issue for a time at least. The Awapuni horseman. W. ,T. McDowell, is to have the mount, so Whirlalong will be well served in this respect. No fewer than five of the two-year-olds engaged in the Tamahere Stakes are members of A. Cook’s stable at Te Awamutu. Gay Seton, a colt by Gay Shield—Persis . and Trickling Water, a filly by Gay Shield —Boynette, are owned by Mr Clive Matthews, of Hamilton: Rex Victor, a gelding by King Lu—Allwin, carries the colours of Mr A. W. Gallagher; Impasto, a colt by High Art. —Baby Doll, is raced by Messrs A. J. McGovern (Te Awamutu), and C. B. O'Donnell (Wellington), while the General Latour—March gelding, Te Tawa, who is to race in the colours of Mr j. Hoilier, of Te Awamutu, is a brother to Te Kara. Loombination w r as not very impressive as a two-year-old, but he has shaped better this season. The three-year-old gelding by Illuminat'on —Principal Lady, Is trained at Te Awamutu by R. H. Savage. Loombination, who has improved in condition since last season, was a good third to Jonathan and Belltopper in the first division of the .Maiden Plate at Avondale in September. He was started in the Guineas on the second day, but was brought down when Gold Trail fell about five furlongs- from home. On his opening form of the season, Loombination must have some prospect in the Trial Stakes. Baroscope was paid up for in the Cup and the Ciaudelands Highweight Handicap on the opening day. It has been decided to start Baroscope in the latter event in which be will he coupled on the machine with Princess Bede, who is also owned by Mr E. If. Cucksey, of Tirau. Baroscope will be ridden by his trainer, A. Tinker, while T. Green will pilot Princess Bede. Both horses have moved well in the fast work they have got through this week and the bracket will find useful support.

Moonfleet, who is trained at T ' Aroha by ,T. IT. Wallace, has beei "J performing- well in the hack ranks o recent weeks. The Silverado—Midlorn gelding finished a close third t( j Lord Aintree and Limex in the Bruntwood Hack Handicap at the Laboui meeting at Cambridge. On the concluding day of the Auckland Club’s Spring meeting last week he proved equal to the demands in the Hobson Handicap. Lord Aintree being runnerup. Moonfleet had a 101 b advantage in the weights over Lord Aintree at Cambridge, while he had i Sib the better of matters at Ellerslic. The margin between them in the Taupiri Hack Handicap on Saturday is I Gib. So far as this pair are concerned, the prospects appear as even as possible. Ganpnt, who is to race in highweight. company on Saturday, has been located at Wanganui this season. He was trained at Takanini for a period and has raced previously at local headquarters. The Lord Quex — Queen Lizzie gelding was runner-up to Royal Ruler in the Kirikiriroa Handicap. the sprint race of the concluding day at the Spring meeting twelve I months back. Gan pat has improved since he last came under notice, his present muscular appearance indicating that he has done a lot of work. No rider has yet been announced for Ganpat, who promises to give a good account of himself in the coining mile I with 8.3. ; Arcade was schooled over six hur- | dies at. To Rapa yesterday morning I when Roy Syme was in the saddle. I The Marble Arch gelding gave a very satisfactory display. Willi the pace right on, he jumped one of Die fences along the hack of the course very iini pressivelv. When previously school- | ed, on Salurday morning, Arcade also | acquitted himself well. lie is to start | in the batten event on Salurday. j While he has not had a race for a i lillle lime. Arcade has not been idle, j He won in useful company in Die riiviI sion at Ellerslic in the Winter and | should shape well at his coming start. Tea Trader and High Comedy, who arc acceptors for flic Cambridge Handicap, are owned by Mr R. T. Reid, of Hamilton. It is not intended to start both horses in the sprint race. If the track is suitable Tea Trader will be started. Royal Artish | j and Prince of Grange, who are also j ! raced by Mr Reid, will keep their en- i j gagcmcnts in the Gup and the hurdles j i respectively, while Star Artist, who carries the colours of Mrs Reid, will contest tiie Tamahcre Stakes. These horses, who arc trained at Takanini by j P. IT. Pope, will reach Tc Rapa to- | morrow. Kalian is In represent ,1. F. Tulchen’s i stable in the Trial Slakes. This four- j year-old descendant of King Lupin.: shows some speed. Even if lie finds - the opposition 100 strong in his coining engagement. Kalian is likely lo have his turn later on as he gains further experience. Sinking Fund, who is another representative of the stable j for the race referred to is a three- j year-old gelding by Acre —Peggy Paul, ; but the latter lias nut had a start sol 1 far. :

i Limex possesses a lot of speed, buta tendency to be wayward at the barrier has not been beneficial to her prospects on more than one occasion. The four-year-old filly by Limond — Exactly finished on in bold style to reach second place, only a head away from Lord Aintree in the Bruntwood Hack Handicap at Cambridge on Labour Day. Limex has- worked quite favourably at Te Rapa in the | interval. She is to contest - the i Hautapu Hack Handicap on Saturday | and if reasonably well placed when the straight is reached will be runI ning on over the final stages of the j six furlongs. Jonathan has raced well this season. He won a seven furlong hack engagement at Avondale and followed this up with a second placing to Pillow Fight in the Guineas there. He was conceding Carfex 41b when that promising Nigger Minstrel three-year-old beat him by a length in the Hobson Handicap at Ellerslie, but Jonathan was not too well served by the running on that mile journey. Jonathan is to appear in open sprint company on Saturday. The long straight here will suit the Te Awamutu trained gelding. Puss Moth opened his winning account in the Fairfield Handicap at the Waikato Club’s Winter meeting. The Catmint—Midget gelding followed this up with a win and a second in much improved company at the Auckland Winter meeting. Puss Moth has had two starts in this, his four-year-old term, but he did not get prominent. This member of W. Townsend’s team is a hack of more than average ability. Although he is meeting prominent opposition in the Hautapu Handicap on Saturday, he can be looked to for a forward showing if paraded in the right condition. Paganelli had his- latest start at the annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Club in April. The Lord Quex —Ringdove gelding was an acceptor for the sprint race at Cambridge on Labour Day, but he was not produced owing to the heavy state of the track. Paganelli looks bright and muscular as the outcome of the work he has got through at Te Rapa of recent weeks. Providing the track keeps firm, he will tackle sprint company on Saturday. While Paganelli is class and is sure to be in the issue, some of the lighter weighted opposition, who have had the benefit of recent racing, are likely to trouble him before the six furlongs are decided. TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB. SPRING MEETING ACCEPTANCES. The Spring meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club will be held on November 26 and 28. Acceptances for all first day handicap events will close with the secretary (Mr. R. A. Spinley), at the club’s office Shortland Street, Auckland, on Friday, November 18 at 5 p.m. THE WINTON MEETING.
