GRANITES GOLDFIELD
WARNING TO MINERS. WATER MAY GIVE OUT. (From a Correspondent.) CANBERRA, Nov. 9. A warning to men contemplating leaving for the Granites gold field was issued by the Minister for the Interior (Mr Perkins) yesterday, to the effect [bat the only water supply in the area is obtained from a well a few miles from Granite Hill and thai, although it was recently reported to be making 1400 gallons a day, the normal supply was only 600 gallons per day. The increase to 1400 gallons per day was due mainly to soakage from the recent heavy rains. If any considerable increase takes place in the number of men on the field, there is a danger of the water supply giving out. The Government proposes to deepen the well with a view to securing additional supplies of water, but whether such additional supplies will be obtained is problematical.
The soaks recently reported as having been made along the road to 'the Granites are now drying out.
