WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

RIORRINSVILLE DAY CIRCLE. Mrs Topham presided over an excellent attendance of nearly eighty members at the October meeting of the day circle. Visitors present from the newly formed Motumaoho Institute and from Matangi. The secretary of the Matangi Institute,, Mrs Hodgson, who had been one of the 200 members to attend the sc'cond Dominion Conference held at Wellington, and who had taken a full shorthand account of proceedings, gave an interesting address. After reading Miss Spencer’s opening address, Mrs Hodgson outlined the programme of the conference. She advised the branch to make a determined effort to send a delegate to the next conference, which would be held at Christchurch, next year. An interesting demonstration of icing Christmas cakes was given by Miss B. Fielder, Mesdames E. Maise.y, J. L. Falkner, H. Wilcox, Fulton, W. Hartley and T. Cooper. AT TE KOWHAI. The October meeting of the Institute was held in the hall recently, a large number of members being present. The meeting opened with the reciting of the Creed. Mrs Harris was proposed as delegate for the conference of the W.F. W.l. to be held in Hamilton in November. The programmes printed with the arrangements for the next three meetings were, distributed. Two new members were proposed and elected. The number of points to be awarded for points competitions were decided upon and it was also decided to form a Play Reading Circle. Mrs Laxon agreed to take charge of the sales table for the next two months. The demonstration on dressmaking given by Mrs Weatherley was much appreciated. Community singing caused much merriment, especially many of the old songs included in the programme. A vote of thanks was given to the hostesses, Mesdames Mclndoe, McLachlan, Nicholson, N. Nicol, T. Nlcol, Otto, and to Mrs Weatherley for her interesting demonstration. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
