WAIPA ASSOCIATION. OPENING OF SEASON. The Walpa Cricket Association’s ohampionshlp competitions were commenced on Saturday, but the weather was decidedly unfavourable. The Te Kawa v. High School match resulted in a win for High School by 82 to 56. Top scorer for High School was Carter, who put up 19, while McMahon and J. Shaw contributed 17 each. Sutton captured four wlokets for 9 runs. Te Kawa’s best soore was that of Coverdale, who hit out merrily at everything and contributed 21 (not out). J. Shaw captured five wickets for 19 runs. Puahue v. Rukuhla. Rukuhia batted first and made 209 for seven wickets, to which Puahue replied with 44. Top-scorer for Rukuhia was W Main, who made 49, and for Puahue, Harrop made the top score of 11 runs. DACRE AT NORTH SHORE. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. A formal application for the playing services of C. C. Dacre was made by the North Shore Club in a letter received at last evening’s meeting of the management oommittee of the Auokland Cricket Association. The North Shore Club Intimated that it was forwarding its application owing to the association’s action in appointing Dacre professional coach. The committee resolved to grant permission for Dacre to play for North Shore. TE AROHA OLUB. The second annual tournament of the Te Aroha Golf Club was played on Saturday and Monday. Seven teams oompeted for the Somers Shield and the result was a win for the Te Aroha A team, who won by one point from the Te Aroha B team. The Thames Valley Championship Cup was played on Monday. The winner was J. Kenny, of Te Aroha, who last week won the club championship. The following were the best scores for the various competitions:— Somers Shield.—Te Aroha A (J. Somers 83, J. MoGlashan 88, J. Kenny 82, V. Crowley 91), total 344. Te Aroha B (A. McLeod 85, C. H. Murphy 85, E. Wright 89, D. W. Barnfield 86), total 345. Morrinsville, Paeroa and Walton also competed. Thames Valley Championship Gup. —J. Kenny, 81, 84—165; G. H. Murphy, 88, 90—178; A. McLeod, 91, 89—180. The medal handicap on Saturday was won by R. Kemp, 84, 17—67; and the medal handicap on Monday by J. Kenny, 81—8 —73. The bogey handicap was won by J. Kenny, 4 down. One four-ball best-ball bogey handicap Was won by Somers 5 and Wyllie 9, 4 up, and another by Halllgan 3 and Leitch 12, 7 up. WHAKATANE TOURNAMENT. WHAKATANE, Tuesday. The final of the Whakatane district golf tourney was played on the Mokorua golf links. Napier beat Powdrell, 4 and 3, in the A section, and Waugh beat Pitcalthley, 5 and 4, in the B section. MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. Brilliant golf was a feature of the final of the Manawatu amateur championship to-day, A. E. Ekstedt (Manawatu) defeating A. H. Warren (Wairarapa), 5 and 4. The 'loser went out in a scintillating 36, one stroke better than scratch, but was 3 down, Ekstedt, by phenomenal golf, reaching the torn three under fours. G. H. Scott (Hutt) beat W. Martin (Martinborough) in the final of the llokowhitu Handicap. N. WAIROA CHAMPIONSHIP. DARGAVILLE, Tuesday. The annual championship tournament of the Northern Wairoa Golf Club resulted in a win for Dr. M. Greville, president of the club, who defeated Glanville (Whangarel), 4 and 3.
