BOROUGH OFFICES.
THE NEW BUILDING. USE OF RAILWAY LAND. The Borough Council has reached an agreement In regard to an area of railway property behind the new municipal offices in Alma Street. The right-of-way to the back boundary of the section Is _to ne lcerbed, channelled and sealed. The counoil approved the proposals of the engineer (Mr R. Worley) for the use of part of the railway property at the rear, leased to a local firm, and the borough solicitor is to be instructed to prepare the neoessary agreement on the following lines:— “The counoil to have the right to erect part of Its garage on the land, and to use, with the local firm, and their other tenants, the area of yard space as shown on the plan, the council to form and seal the yard in lieu of rent for a period of ten years, and thereafter the counoil to pay half the annual rental charged by the Railway Department, the agreement to provide that in the event of the Railway Department giving notice of its intention to alter the terms of the lease or to in any way interfere with the occupanoy of the area, the company shall immediately advise, and keep the oounoil fully informed of tho proposals, and the oouncll shall have the right to reconsider its future position and terminate the arrangement with the oompany.”
