(By “ Padlock.”) MEETINGS AHEAD. August, 27.—Auckland. September 3.—New Brighton. September 10.—Wellington. October I.—Methven. October B.—Waikato. October 22, 24—Greymouth. October 22, 24 —Auckland. October 24.—Oamaru. October 29.—Wellington. The New Season. The latest season of trotting in this district will be introduced by the Auckland Club's programme on Saturday. The fields engaged at Alexandra Park, while not large, are well-balanced and the public can look forward to interesting racing. Among the acceptors are horses from stables in this district. Now at Addington. Free Logan has joined J. Shaw's stable at Addington. The Rey de Oro gelding was sent south by his Hamilton owner, Mr C. Moran, to be prepared for further racing from the headquarters indicated. A Local Candidate. Mattie Herbilwyn, when in action at Auckland in June was successful. The Herbilwyn mare began well on that occasion, and always doing her wmrk well, was a comfortable winner. The Tamahere trained trotter is giving away time to get in the Introductory Handicap on Saturday, but she 'vul require consideration on her latest form. Possesses Speed. Stormy Mack may prove one of the hardest to take toll of in the Mount Eden and the Onehunga Handicaps on Saturday. The A 1 Mack —Maelstrom gelding, who is in A. W. Broughton s team, possesses a lot of speed. He was in second place at his latest start, which was at Alexandra Park in June. Once Stormy Mack settles down solidly to his work, as he promises to do with racing, he will prove a useful performer. From the Limit. Adjutant will be a member of R. A. McMillan’s stable for the coming meeting. The aged ! descendant of Worthy Bingen is on the front mark In the Mt. Eden Handicap. Adjutant shows- promise and he should be capable of a useful effort in this grade. From J. T, Paul’s Stable. Moko Bells, a member of J. T. Paul’s stable, will be entitled to respect in the introductory Handicap on Saturday. The Peter Moko —Alton Bells gelding does not always do his work evenly, but he has speed for the class when at his peak. Moko Bells, off a 3.39 mark,-will have a good following for the coming engagement. Will be In Demand. Moko Girl will be a prominent selection for the Introductory Handicap at Auckland. The Peter Moko mare showed winning form on the track in the winter. Moko Girl is a very speedy mover when under way. Although the task set the member of W. T., "Dye’s team on the latest occasion is -more difficult, Moko Girl will only ■have to do her work without serious error to prove the hardest to dispose of. ' Should Be Better Now. When Carnui was in action at the Winter meeting at Auckland, he failed to give a return to his followers. The El Carbine gelding is to make his next appearance off the limit of the August Handicap on Saturday. The member of F. J. Smith’s team has •had a Useful measure of work in the interval since last raced and it is confidently expected that he will make an proved showing when next in action. In Two Events. Donee Is a Claudelands candidate to fulfil engagements at the Auckland meeting. The Great Audubon gelding has been paid up for In the Mount Eden Handicap, of one mile and a quarter and the Onehunga Handicap, of one mile and a half. Although he failed to earn a dividend at the Winter meeting at provincial headquarters, Donee made sufficiently good showings to hold out prospects In the near future. From the August Stable. Homeward, who is an acceptor for the Grey Lynn and Orakei Handicaps on Saturday, is prepared at Otahuhu by S. M. August. The Happy Voyage—Grattan Derby filly showed useful form at the Winter meeting at provincial headquarters. As further Improvement can be expected as the result of the work she has got through in the interval, Homeward should be equal to good efforts on Saturday. A Solid Sort. Kewpie’s ’Triumph is a solid horse, who seldom runs an indifferent race. He is on a mark that does not make his task easy, but even off 4.32 Jn the August Handicap on Saturday, he will have support. The flve-year-old descendant of The Triumph and Kewpie will be favoured by the fact that the field is not unwieldy, with the result that the traversing of extra ground to get up from his position will demand the minimum exaction. Kewplc's Triumph has a solid finishing run. He is also in the sprint race, the Massey Memorial Handicap and if lie escapes a penalty will also have a foliowing in the mile and a quarter. Rooent Form. Gold Seam is in the Mount Eden and the Onehunga Handicaps. Tim Gold Bell gelding lias recent winning form and should he capable of the Improvement necessary to make bold showings on Saturday. He accounted for a useful field in winning the Mangere Handicap at the Winter meeting. lie was always in front once, the field settled down and had the useful margin of two lengths at the close of I lie ten furlongs. Cook, well known as a trainer i - in the sister branch of Hie sport, I Pegaway is above the average, al- 1 though an uncertainly exists in res- 1 pert of liis beginning ability. Once under way, he is a very free mover. He gave evidence of the fact at tlm Juno meeting at Mexnmlra Park, on ' which occasion he was a winner. At \ his preceding start at the meeting he made up grmind at a very rapid rate 3 after a belated beginning, althougu 1 outside a dividend place al the llnisl,. j With tho Sprinters. ; Direct Morning lias been getting 1 y through a lot of useful work at f \ claudelands of late. Cockbill’s charge was successful in the Cornwall Handicap. lie is, if anything, an improved horse by this and, providing lie makes the most of his handicap, will be about at the business end of the coming journey. Steady Progress. Whakakihi, who is in A. McSweeney's team at Mangere, is making progress. The Worthy Bond—-Ha! l.ady gelding, lias not had a great deal of racing, hut some useful efforts are in his credit. At the Winter meeting at Alexandra Park he registered a good second to Worthy Cause in the Hobson Handicap, one mile and a half.
