THE WORLD’S NEED.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The various correspondents ■on the above appear 'generally disposed to take the discussion onto the spiritual, and theological plane. Whilst this might Interest a few ard,ent souls and minister to some degree to lax church-goers, I respectfully submit sir, that they are simply shelving the j&actical issue by a cloud of sentimental irrelevancy. The obvious faults of our social economic system, are the outcome, of mistaking policies of the past, both of Individuals and of States. Mistaken ideas born of a misconception oi evolutionary truths have induced peoples and nations to strive with one another for supposed trade advantages, at a period in our upward progress,, which should have signalised the universal acceptance of the obvious truth that all- nations and races are Interdependent and should be harmoniously co-operating for ‘the solution of their various problems. To the various contributors I beg to submit. 1. That there is no problem however vexed, whether financial, economic, or social, that cannot bo solved by t’ho unbiased deliberations of intelligent practical men and women. (God helps those who exhibit an earnest desire to help their kind). 2. That production being already reasonably efficient to start with, it is ■in the realm of distribution that the industrial machine is choked. 3. That the disability in our distributive system can bo traced to an out of date monetary and credit system. This system was formulated by man, in the beginning of the Industrial era, has been improved and adapted to a considerable extent, but as it •stands to-day, Is hopelessly inade-
quate to 'meet the totally changed conditions of a potential machine age. The personal interests of those in control of this system, are naturally antagonistic to any radical changes. It is necessary therefore, for the great laity of intelligent citizenship to wake up. and read up, and think about, this thing called finance, I can assure them they will find it intensely Interesting. Thus only, will a satisfactory solution lo our troubles he found. God is in Ills Heaven no doubt, but we ami our children are still on earth, and our problems arc earthly ones.1 am, etc., C.
