SUNDAY SCHOOL RALLY
GATHERING AT HAMILTON.
Children to the number of several hundreds attended the annual rally of the Waikato Combined Sunday Schools at the Theatre Royal yesterday afternoon. Led by the South Auckland Pipe Band, the young people marched to the theatre, where Pastor G. Byoroft delivered a stirring address. Popular hymns, led by an orchestra conducted by Mr A. Smith and comprising Misses M. Turbott (piano), It. Robinson, J. Wycherley, L. Potter and Messrs J. Stubbs, R. Davies (violins), J. Wheeler (bass), were sung with great zest by the children. Pastor J. Salisbury, who presided, stressed the importance of Sunday schools in promoting the moral wellbeing of the children and the community.
In presenting the shield won by St. Paul’s (Hamilton) for the highest aggregate of marks in the Sunday school section of the Waikato Winter Show, Pastor Salisbury congratulated the children on the tine efforts they had put into their work, which were a credit to the teachings they received at the various Sunday schools. Mr W. E. Wood, superintendent of St. Paul’s, who received the shield and an accompanying gift of books for the Sunday school library, suitably replied.
