FOR PARENTS
DON’T Nag. Punish. Repress. Instill fear. Lose your own temper. Pamper and over-indulge. Force your child to “show off.” Laugh at your child’s mistakes. Ask or demand unreasonable things. Assume that a child is lying when he is simply being naturally imaginative. Make arbitrary commands —simple explanations are easy to give and worth giving. Fail to remember that you are the model your child will copy—either consciously or -unconsciously. DO Guide rather than direct. Explain rather than command. Get your child’s confidence. Cultivate your child’s self-reliance. See that work, play, and rest arc properly balanced. Establish a routine of Life, beginning early in infancy. Be sure that your child has a reason for everything he does —find out what it is. Provide opportunities for normal, constructive play, home-made toys and pleasures are best. Try to understand your child's point -of view rather than expect him to do all the understanding of yours.
